Best Method to clean and activate Battery Packs banner

China dominates lithium battery manufacturing, holding a majority share of global production and capacity. In 2022, China’s lithium battery production capacity accounted for around 77% of the global market.

In China, a significant concentration of lithium battery manufacturers is found in the provinces of Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Zhejiang.

Keylink Technology plays a key role with its presence/locations in the Zhejiang (Rui’an), Jiangsu (Suzhou), and Guangdong (Dongguan) provinces, focusing on the trend of new energy development and offering solutions specifically to companies manufacturing Lithium Batteries.

Cleaning and activating battery packs – especially before processes like encapsulation, bonding, painting, or sealing – is critical for reliability and performance. Here’s the best method, especially for lithium-ion and other modern battery packs, often used in EVs, power tools, or electronics.

Recommended Method: Atmospheric Plasma Treatment

  • Cleans organic contaminants (oils, release agents, dust)
  • Activates the surface by introducing polar functional groups (e.g., -OH, -COOH)
  • Non-damaging: No abrasion, heat, or solvent residue
  • Improves adhesion for coatings, adhesives, and sealants.

Typical Plasma Cleaning Process for Battery Packs

                Step                                      Details
1. Visual InspectionCheck for physical defects, leaks, or corrosion.
2. Initial Wipe Down     (Optional)Use IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to remove bulk contaminants. Let dry completely.
3. Plasma TreatmentUse an atmospheric plasma jet or corona discharge to treat surfaces.
4. Surface Energy Test    (Dyne Test)Confirm surface energy > 38–42 dyn/cm for optimal bonding.
5. Immediate Bonding or    CoatingPerform the next process step quickly after plasma (ideally within 30 minutes).

Recommended Plasma Systems

  • Plasma Jet: Localized treatment for cell tabs, bonding areas.
  • Rotary Nozzle Systems: For high-throughput pack surface preparation.
  • Inline Plasma Systems: For automated production lines.
